1. Fricktaler Racketlon-Turnier

Der RC Fricktal war voller Vorfreude auf das erste Racketlon Turnier im heimischen Fricktal. In der 2021 neu erstellten Tennishalle des TC Frick, mit Anbindung an die Squashplätze des Squash Fricktal, konnte das Turnier am Sonntag, 26. März 2023 durchgeführt werden. Die Infrastruktur begeisterte die 34 TeilnehmerInnen, da vom Clubhaus auf alle Sportarten geblickt werden konnte.

Neben der Neuen Fricktaler Zeitung, war auch das Aargauer Regionalfernsehen Tele M1 beim Turnier zu Gast. Der Bericht wird voraussichtlich am 19. April 2023 im Format «uf Bsuech» ausgestrahlt.

Kategorie A
Die sechs TeilnehmerInnen waren sich in den Gruppenspielen fast ebenbürtig, so kam es nur in einem Spiel nicht zum Tennis. Mit grossen Erwartungen wurde auf das Spiel zwischen Flavio und Nathalie hin gefiebert. Beim RC Fricktal stellte man sich die Frage, ob der clubinterne Wolf den Vogel «zerfleischt» oder der Vogel dem Wolf davonfliegen wird. Ersteres war dann der Fall, wenn auch nur sehr knapp. In der Gruppe A setzte sich Léon Mamié durch und traf im Finale auf den anderen Gruppensieger Bruno Scherrer. Léon gewann das Spiel deutlich und konnte den Turniersieg für sich verbuchen. Im kleinen Final setzte sich Chris Tröndle gegen Flavio Wolf durch und stand ebenfalls auf dem Podest.

Kategorie B
Auch in dieser Kategorie gab es nur wenig Spiele, bei denen das Duell bereits nach dem Squash beendet war. Ein Grund dafür war die «Dominanz» vom jüngsten Teilnehmer des Turniers. Der 14-Jährige Andreas Kotala musste nur im Finalspiel zum Tennisracket greifen. Dort bezwang er Christian Nyffenegger mit sechs Punkten Differenz und gewann souverän die Kategorie B. Das Spiel um Rang 3 konnte André Bieler gegen Riccardo Raimo für sich entscheiden.

Kategorie C
Im grössten Tableau des Turniers mit 16 Teilnehmern, davon sechs Neulinge, konnte sich der als Nummer 2 gesetzte Jan Vogel durchsetzen. Auch er dominierte die Kategorie und musste ebenfalls erst im Finale den Tennisschläger auspacken. Gegen den Squashspieler und Neuling im Racketlon Armand Hohenstein, gewann er das Endspiel mit nur fünf Punkten Vorsprung. Im kleinen Final setze sich Bruno Böller gegen Daniel Eggmann durch und stand ebenfalls auf dem Podest.

Dankeschön
Ohne Hilfe und Sponsoren wäre das Turnier nicht möglich gewesen. Ein grosses Dankeschön des-halb an die freiwilligen HelferInnen, insbesondere an Nathalie Vogel. Sie hat neben organisieren von Tischtennistischen, Rackets und Bällen auch bei der Vorbereitung am Turniertag mitgewirkt. Ebenfalls ein grosses Merci in die Küche, dort haben René und Verena für die Verköstigung der TeilnehmerInnen und Gäste gesorgt. Und natürlich an alle HelferInnen des RC Fricktals.

Women's International Racketlon Lausanne

Dear women players,

I am pleased to invite you to the IWT Lausanne Open 2023! This racketlon singles and doubles tournament has international and national categories for less experienced to elite players. RC Léman, the organising club, of which I am lucky enough to be the Vice President, has decided to put women in the spotlight with the aim of promoting women's sports and helping people discover this sport. This is why this event is exclusively for women.

It will take place in the magnificent Green Club in Romanel, near Lausanne. This tournament will also be an opportunity to discover this stunning region of Lake Geneva and to discover the city of Lausanne, notably during the Players Party on Saturday evening. Each participant will leave with a gift and the elite international category will have a Prize Money. Shuttles will be planned between the hotels and the sports centre, as well as for foreign players on their arrival in Switzerland.

IWT French Open

The tournament could also have taken place at the North Pole, because the temperatures in the venue were freezing. But still the Swiss players were hot for the medals. It is not easy to count all the Swiss medals that the Swiss delegation brought home from Paris at the weekend. A look at the medal table shows 9 ½ medals! 4x gold, 4½ x silver and 1x bronze.

Let’s get started with the titles:

Nicole Eisler wins her first IWT title in a few years. The women’s final was between a very experienced player, Nicole Eisler, and a quite new Racketlon player from France, Marie Jaussein. This is Jaussein’s first IWT tournament, and she can be proud of the impression she left in the Racketlon community. Eisler started strong in table tennis, winning 21-10. Jaussein then bounced back by winning badminton 21-8. She played very smart, moving Nicole around the court and wrong-footing her sometimes. Going into squash Jaussein was leading by two points. Eisler played some amazing squash, focused, and determined not making any errors. She took it 21-3. The relief after squash was noticeable for Eisler, as she only needed six more points to claim the title. It was still not over, and especially against such a strong tennis player as Jaussein. Jaussein maybe felt the pressure of Racketlon a bit, making some errors early on, giving Eisler the belief that she also makes mistakes. Eisler stayed calm and composed, it was 11-4 at the change and she knew she “only” needed two more points. A great rally and Jaussein just found the net, 6-13 to Nicole.

Together with her partner from France, Flore Allègre, she also managed to win the women elite doubles! Flore didn’t just pair up with a Swiss in WD, but also with table tennis specialist Nicolas Champod in the Mixed doubles. The couple brought home the gold medal as well. A sensation on his own was youngster Andreas Kotala. He won the u16 by a mile, winning all his matches +42.

Switzerland has also found a new successful doubles. Manfred Grab and Bruno Scherrer rocked the Men C doubles. As top seeds, they showed that they complemented each other perfectly and thus won the tournament.

Silver shone also around the necks of Champod, Grab and Scherrer for the 2nd time. Champod together with Nicolas Lenggenhager in the Men's Elite Doubles, Grab in the Men's +50 and Scherrer together with the Paris-based Swiss Amandine Souin in the Mixed Doubles B. Grab even doubled again in the Men's Doubles +40. Together with Beat Ladner. Thus Grab traveled home from Paris with 3 medals!

Eisler also won a 3rd medal. Together with Noah Mamié they also reached the podium in the Elite Mixed Doubles (bronze).

The other Swiss also sweated a bit in the cold, even if it was not enough for a medal. Oliver Bühler sweated against the later finalist in the quarterfinals also off court, Dara Ladner won in a placement match against the number 1 seed in the Women's Elite and Christian Schäfer sweated probably also because of a caught virus. Graham King, FIR Delegate, also had to seat a bit off court and behind the scene of helping the organisers around Joss Gadé to achieve a great tournament. Thank you. And last but not least, the Mamié brothers had a family duel in their last match in Paris. Conclusion: Medals shine, and some eyes also shine at the sight of French waiters. This sentence should actually have been written in German, so that the person concerned can understand it.

IWT RSL Finnish Open

5 Swiss players took the long way to the far north and hunted not reindeer but beautiful birch leave medals. Successfully.

With the most medals around her neck Nicole Eisler traveled back from Helsinki. She managed a perfect start in table tennis and badminton against the young finnish squash talent Viivi Paksu after the semi-final defeat in the women's A and secured bronze with 13 points won in squash. Eisler could certainly already get used to the good Finnish court conditions in doubles (with her first-time partner Stephanie Chung, US) and in mixed together with Nicolas Lenggenhager. 2x silver was the result.

The swiss mixed duo didn't really get going in the final. Of course, it was also no advantage that Lenggenhager had fought in a tough match against squash pro Henrik Mustonen just a few minutes before for a place in the semifinals in Men A. Unfortunately unsuccessfully. He found neither in squash nor in tennis a recipe to score many points. In the end it was enough for rank 7 in this strong tableau. In doubles Lenggenhager reached rank 6 together with René Lindberg, SWE.

Graham King also competed in 3 categories and was on the podium 2 times. Together with Ersoy Korer from Turkey he won silver in the men's doubles B. In the men's singles +60 he doubled with a silver medal. After successfully winning his group without ever having had the tennis racket in his hands, King was only defeated by Thomas Ostenfeld Larson from Denmark.

Then there was our junior Andreas Kotala. He competed in 2 categories. Men B he could use to get used to the playing conditions for the Juniors U21. Unfortunately, the U16 category was not played and so it was for the 14 year old to test against the older ones. Thereby he missed the podium only by a hair. Only by one point. Fortunately, Kotala has a few more years to compete in the U21 and hopefully win.

Many thanks to the finish organization team around Poku Salo. The tournament ran smoothly, the playing conditions were good and with the fast fall to weekend was also provided for the right Nordic atmosphere next to the court.

Also a big thanks to the new social media boss Sanne Veldkamp. The tournament was excitingly documented and presented on the social media channels of the FIR.
